Review: The Beautiful and the Cursed (The Dispossessed #1) by Page Morgan

Beautiful, charming and dark
Title: The Beautiful and the Cursed
Series: The Dispossessed
Author: Paige Morgan
Publisher:Hot Key Books, UK
My ratings: 4 out of 5 stars
Released: 3rd May, 2013
Gothic YA fantasy are rare and far in between, so when I found Page Morgan's the Beautiful and the Cursed, I wanted to give it a go. I enjoy fantasy novels and this book was no different. Ingrid, her sister and her mother move to Paris to an abandoned Abbey, to spend some time with their brother. But soon it is clear that he is missing. Determined to find him, Ingrid and Gabriella are soon embroiled into a centuries old curse. Being residents of the Abbey, they fall underneath the protection of Luc the resident young lad who works in the stables but is more than he appears to be. He is a Gargoyle, tasked with protecting the Abbey and fighting an intense attraction to Ingrid..

I really enjoyed this book and especially it's setting. While the plot was not spectacularly gripping nor the writing unique, it still kept me interested. The flow and the setting was beautiful and I found myself immersed in nineteenth century Paris, in it's dark gothic glory. The tall church spires and the e;elegant and ugly statues of gargoyles guarding building with their stern expressions and steely eyes.

For romance lovers, there is plenty to to relish as there are not one but so love stories sprouting in the midst of the confusion and mystery. While I was rooting for Ingrid and Luc's forbidden romance, Nolan's and Gabriella's romance made me slightly uncomfortable with Gabriella being 15 years old and Nolan nearly twenty. But looking at the fact that this was set 100 years ago, this was acceptable..

The Beautiful and the Cursed was a unique take in the crowded YA fantasy market. It may not have tried to achieve something new, it nevertheless kept me entertained. I could feel the cold and dark seeping into my very skin while imagining my characters walking through the beautiful streets of Paris in their charming dresses and carriages. The setting was dark, chilling and thoroughly chilling which begs I grab the second book and the third book which released last month.

Thats some quality basics there, already know some of that, but you can always learn . Alpha Brain I doubt a “kid” could put together such information as dolphin278 suggested. Maybe he's just attempting to be “controversial? http://www.supplements4help.com/alpha-brain/

Its not like youve said anything extremely impressive more like youve painted a quite picture more than an Diabazole issue that you know nothing about! I dont want to sound mean, right here. But do you seriously think that you can get away with adding some quite pictures and not genuinely say anything?http://www.healthsupreviews.com/diabazole/

Thank YouGreat article. I previousally to spend alot of my time water skiing and being involved in sports. It was quite possible the most memorable period of my childhood and your info somehow brought back us of that. Thanks
I feel like you could probably teach a class on how to make a great blog. This is fantastic! I have to say, what really got me was your design. You certainly know how to make your blog more than just a rant about an issue. Youve made it possible for people to connect. Good for you, because not that many people know what theyre doing.*There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration.

Do you care if I post part of this on my webpage if I post a link back to this site?
Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, Cognimaxx XL I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. Its very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.http://www.healthsupreviews.com/cognimaxx-xl/

I really enjoyed reading this book, it's a great introduction to a series. I felt the gargoyle idea was a nice diversion from the inundation of vampires and werewolves currently in the fantasy genre. I excitedly await a sequel.
